Victoria A. Hudson is a poet and photographer. She occasionally journeys into short story and longer fiction, while pursuing creation of capturing narrative nonfiction. She writes flash for the fun and challenge it provides. Distractions from writing generally involve playing in the dirt, creating culinary concoctions with what came out of the dirt, feral cat control and constant catching up with literary, news, science, geographic, and other such periodicals that arrive in the mail.
Wanting always to become a writer, she applied the theory “write what you know” and has worked in culinary, security, health, sales, educational, and other fields of endeavor. In 2012, she retired after 33 years as an Army Reserve soldier where she was a Military Police, Civil Affairs, and Information Operations professional. Her service included five years enlisted and over 28 years commissioned with five recalls to active duty that included three combat area tours of duty. She commanded two companies and three battalions during her career. One of her proudest accomplishments while in Operation Iraqi Freedom was serving as the Convoy Commander for numerous convoys on a weekly basis while deployed.
She holds a Master of Fine Arts from Saint Mary’s College of California in creative writing/nonfiction. In 2007, she was a Fellow at the inaugural Lambda Literary Emerging Writers Retreat.
